My Rating = 5 + stars (a zillion for Griffin!)

This is the second book in the For You series by Genna Rulon. The first book was her debut novel, Only For You and firmly established her on my ‘must read’ list. The blurb for Pieces For You advises that it can be read as a standalone but I strongly advise you to read the first book, not only because it is a fabulous read but Griffin is introduced first there. Even as a secondary character I wanted to know more about him so imagine my joy to receive an arc of this book – Griffin and Sam’s book!
Griffin had always worshipped Sam from afar and had recently become good friends with her and Ev, her BFF. However, Sam becomes a victim of the serial rapist and murderer on campus and is sent away to try and recover from her ordeal. This is where book two picks up. It is months later that Sam returns and tries, with the help of Ev, to get her life back on track and overcome the darkness her ordeal left her with.
Griffin is an absolute saint and I adore him. He isn’t your typical alpha male (although he is very alpha – rawr!) but he doesn’t have any dark and mysterious past. He doesn’t have demons or treat women like poop. He is an honest, hardworking, down to earth, sex on legs, alpha hot MAN! I loved how his treatment of Sam was written with the care and attention to detail it needed. It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t falsified, it was heartfelt and sublime and all that a woman would want a man to be after living through the greatest ordeal as she had. He was there for her every step of the way with his patience, understanding and devotion. Yet he didn’t take away her ownership for her own recovery and gaining herself back to be the woman she was.
Sam’s journey of recovery was an inspiration to see. Before she was a strong and independent woman, despite her parent’s wealth, she made her own way and it was glorious to see that this was given glimpses of throughout the early stages of recovery. Yes she had Griffin, Ev and Hunter as her support mechanism but she ultimately fought the darkness that ordeal had taken her through to regain her sense of self-worth.
The romance scenes were wonderfully written and evolved with the storyline as you would expect a woman recovering from rape and battery. However these were elevated to a steamier read as Sam’s recovery undertook a total transformation. Saying that they were still tender and loving and were wonderful to see that Griffin continued to give Sam what she needed with just the right emphasis on the sexiness factor.
The comedy still continued in this book even with the tragedy intertwined. The sassy one liners and putdowns by Sam and Ev were as hilarious as the first book and it was good to see Meg now become part of the team. I hope she is the next book and that we find out more about the ‘stepped out of a fashion magazine but he is a troll’ Wes. Something more just needs to be told about him, I know he isn’t the ass clown he appeared to be. He’s too sexy to be that!
Ms Rulon is a very talented writer and totally draws me in to her storylines. This series has been an absolute joy to read and the characters so likeable, believable and real. I can’t wait for book three!
A wonderfully deserved five star rating from me and one I totally recommend for you to read.
