Synopsis
What happens when a single mom’s four-year-old daughter falls in love with Mr. Right and she doesn’t?
Maggie Tyson’s rule: no bad boys. Her incarcerated ex-husband broke her of that attraction. Needing to escape his threats and the scrutiny of the people in her hometown, Maggie relocates to New York City. Determined to not make the same mistakes, she has a mile-long list of dos and don’ts. Unfortunately, her daughter, Cecily, doesn’t like to follow them. When Cecily wanders away from her and right into Rick Stone’s office, Maggie knows he’s the exact type she’s been trying to avoid. Can she resist him or will she succumb to his willful charm?
Rick Stone’s rule: bed them don’t wed them. Running a multi-billion dollar business doesn’t leave him with much time to do anything else, particularly with an overbearing grandfather breathing down his neck. But when a man works hard, he needs to play even harder. Voted America’s most eligible bachelor, Rick doesn’t have any problems getting women into his bed—except one.
Two auburn beauties stumble into his life.
One will break his heart.
The other—heal it.
Will he love or leave them?

This was a very different and light romance and not what I
was expecting from the blurb. It is a standalone read so no cliff-hangers, in
fact the opposite as there were several epilogues given.
Maggie has come out of a turbulent relationship with her ex-husband
who is now in prison so she has vowed her future will no longer include bad
boys or men with deviant reputations. This is especially so now she has her
young daughter Cece to protect and take care of. However it is through her
daughter that she meets the enigmatic Rick Stone.
Rick is the CEO of a multimillion empire that was started by
his late father. His focus is carrying on his Dad’s dream and nothing will
stand in his way, especially not women. Oh no, for him his dalliance with romance
are one night hook ups and nothing more. But then the cute as a button little
girl comes into his life and with her, her gorgeous mother, Maggie.
I was really looking forward to a hot and passionate storyline
mixed in with some cute from the enticing blurb but it didn’t really meet up with
my expectations. The storyline was a slow burner and the romance was definitely
secondary in this book. Cece was the winner though, especially the dialogue she
had with Rick who was also the highlight. Kat on the other hand was a tad
frustrating. Here was a hot, sexy gorgeous man who was also a hit with her
child but she kept pushing him away.
The storyline jumps from one scene to another timeline and
in some instances I got a little lost. The attention to detail was intricate
but tended to be focused on the little things rather than the areas that the
reader needed more clarification on. At times it felt like the reader was being
held back and standing on the periphery. When reading I like to be thrown in
right in the thick of it and getting a feel for the emotions and angst.
Saying all that the book did keep me invested and I just
loved Rick and how sweet he really was as opposed to his tough businessman
persona. Also how he always felt he should live his life for others rather than
himself and the way he coped with his grandfather’s interference.
The romance aspect picks up at the 80% mark but I do wish it
was much sooner as this would have made this an altogether much more emotive
and involving read for me. I didn’t feel the connection between Rick and Maggie, until later on in the book, which was a shame. The story for me is more of Rick becoming the man his father
always wanted him to be rather than a romance between him and Maggie. Which is
not a bad thing but the blurb just set me in a different mind-set. Overall a
nice entertaining story.
Thank you for participating in the Unlikely Allies tour and taking time to read and review.
