BOOK: Being Sawyer Knight
(Souls of the Knight #1)
AUTHOR: Nicola Haken
GENRE: m/m erotic romance
PUBLISHED: 27th May 2014
As lead singer and guitarist of the internationally renowned Souls of the Knight, Sawyer Knight is living a life most men can only dream of. He’s surrounded by music, fame, wealth, women throwing themselves at his feet. He has everything…
Yet he has nothing.
Life as one of the world’s most sought after rock stars is tiring, oppressive and lonely. He spends every day being who the world wants him to be, who his manager tells him to be, who his mother expects him to be… all the while fighting against who he really is. Truth is, he’s used to it. He’s actually gotten pretty good at pretending… at living the lie.
Until Jake Reed, his ex-best friend and the only person who’s ever made him ‘feel’, waltzes back into his life as the band’s new head of security. Jake wants Sawyer – always has, always will. Now, he just needs to get Sawyer to admit that he feels the same…
“You will be mine, Sawyer Knight. The faster you try to run the quicker you’ll fall to your knees. Then, Sawyer… then you’ll be too weak to resist.”
Foxy Rating = Four and a half sexy stars!

This is the first book in the Souls of the Knight series and
it gave me everything I wanted in a good, hot and steamy m/m romance. Yes there
are elements of GFY at the beginning, but no matter, it did it for me!
Sawyer Knight (yum right there with the name) has always
lived his life for others, doing what he was told, what was expected and he has
always toed the line and gone along with it. That is until Jake Reed re-enters
his life after a ten year time gap.
Ten years ago Sawyer and Jake were best friends but all that
was to change when Jake and his family were to move from England to Australia.
Jake had always had feelings for Sawyer other than that of best friend and had suspicions
that Sawyer maybe felt the same. That was why he took the chance on that last
day together and grabbed his chance of a stolen kiss. Imagine his shock when
Sawyer totally rejected him and in that instant their friendship or whatever he
hoped could have blossomed was severed.
Fast forward ten years and Jake is now riding high on the
success of his band, Souls of the Knight. Due to some recent scare factors on
the safety of the band with threats, a new security head is hired and imagine
Sawyer’s shock when Jake walks through the door as his new head of security
and his personal bodyguard.
Jake has always been comfortable in his own skin and he
oozes confidence and self-assurance. He has always had the acceptance and
support of his family who are fully aware of his sexuality. Jake has been
watching Sawyer from afar and followed his career and as soon as he sees him
face to face again he knows what he suspected all those years ago is still
there, he can see the flicker of something in Sawyer’s eyes and he knows he has
his work cut out in getting Sawyer to finally admit it.
I really liked this book and furthermore I loved the England
base with the slang words and our TV celebs – was a refreshing change to have
Ms Vorderman mentioned. Oh and arse!
There are some great secondary characters such as Elle who
in a way replaced Jake as Sawyer’s best friend but has been his main support
for the last decade. Ryder was also a good voice of reason when Sawyer was
flailing with his ‘Am I or aren't I?’ ponderings. As with all good m/m romance
we had to have some element of bigotry and angst which Sawyer’s religious
mother supplied. Gah!
There was an element of suspense which was a little weak but
did supply the base for the bodyguard story so I easily overlooked that. However
the winning area of this storyline was the sexual tension and chemistry between
Sawyer and Jake. It was steaming and hotter than hell! I really connected with both
main characters and thought the coupling was fab. Jake with his alpha tendencies
and Sawyer with his rocker edginess. Rawr!
I would definitely recommend this to other m/m romance
readers and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. Four and a half stars!
“I need to talk to you,” was how I greeted Sawyer when he opened the door to his dressing room. We had an hour to wait before the stylists and makeup artists were available to prepare the guys for the shoot, so they were all chilling back in their respective dressing suites.
“Um,’kay,” he said nervously, backing into the room. I followed him inside and then turned back to the door, locking it behind me. That move caused his Adam’s apple to bulge as he swallowed nervously. “W-what’s up?”
“You looked beautiful on that stage,” I said, advancing towards him. Instinctively he backed away, but I kept moving forward until he was pressed against the wall.
“My dick was so hard for you, Sawyer. It’s been hard for you since I got here.”
I flattened my palm against his heaving chest and his own hand quickly reached up to move it away, but instead it lingered, his fingers curling around my own.
“Please, Jake. You’re messing with my head. I can’t take it much longer. You were my best friend and I’ve missed that. Please don’t fuck that up.”
“But I don’t want to be your friend, Sawyer. I want to be your everything.”
“You can’t be serious. You don’t even know me anymore.” His voice was faltering. I was winning.
“I do know you. I know you better than anyone. I know you better than you know yourself. If I didn’t, how would I know that you want me to do this?” I breathed, sliding my hand down his chest until it reached the waistband of his jeans. He swallowed forcefully and then opened his mouth, to protest I assumed, but when my hand dipped inside and took hold of his cock, all that came out was a moan.
The risk I was taking was either going to be a monumental breakthrough, or the biggest mistake of my life.
