This is the second book in the Saving Liam series and picks
up with Justin now living with Liam and making a start with their new
relationship. Liam has escaped the clutches of his evil ex Cord who made him
appear in his web porn movies. However it appears the happy ending we were left
at the end of Saving Liam, is not so as young Liam still has major issues to come
to terms with in order to be able to move on.
The new job he landed in the upmarket restaurant comes to a
crashing halt when a fellow server, Eric, recognises Liam as Angel, the star of
the online porn movies. Liam panics and feels he will never be able to escape
his past, however he surprises himself when he makes a stand at Eric’s
treatment of him and fights back. When a further retaliation is made by Eric
distributing a poster to all his colleagues, Liam realises he needs to quit. It’s
after he has done so he is left wondering what is left for him to do and will
he ever be able to find a job where he is not constantly looking over his
shoulder.
Justin continues to be the most supportive and wonderfully
loving boyfriend that there ever was. He is so patient and understanding with
Liam, it’s beautiful to read. When Liam then lands a job in a strip joint he
fully supports Liam as it is his decision to make but he still has his
misgivings. Liam however justifies that with this job nobody would be shocked
should they find out his former starring role.
I loved how Liam cut ties with ‘Angel’ and created his new
persona ‘Damon’ which in a strange way gave him more confidence that enabled
him to move past his inhibitions, especially in relation to sex with his
boyfriend Justin. However there were
still triggers that lead Liam back to being the scared and insecure ‘kid’ with his
fears of his past with the ‘cookie cutters’ and men from his dark period when
he was made to do vile things against his will.
It was, at times, painful to read the ‘one step forward and
two steps backwards’ progression of Liam but it became apparent that Liam was
moving on, even if he did not recognise it himself. His reinvention of himself
was the start of his new journey. I’m glad the author did not rush this just to
skip the reader to a HEA, it was great to read an actual believable account of
one young man’s struggles to overcome his pain of the past. He is such a sweet
but broken man but with the strength he is given by Justin’s constant support
and belief, it is a gradual step change that is lovely to witness.
The ending left the reader with a happy place to finish but
I still feel there is further to be gained in another book. I definitely would
love to see the laughing and smiling Liam that we were given glimpses of to become
a more normal occurrence for him. I also want Justin to get what he needs. Now
that would be so hot to read! Another great storyline to be taken on in the
continued saving of Liam. Four stars.
