Book: Beautifully Used
Series: The Beaumont Brothers #2
Genre: Contemporary/New Adult Romance
Author: Susan Griscom
Blurb
Suave, handsome Brodie Beaumont has a history of using and being used by women. A past he doesn’t like to talk about has turned him into the type of guy he is today, but he hasn’t really cared. Until the beautiful and feisty Gabrielle Demeres comes back into his life.
Gabrielle learned the hard way what type of guy Brodie was the first time she met him. His crude seduction attempt earned him a slap to his face, and Gabrielle wasn’t exactly looking forward to another encounter with the cad. Unfortunately, her best friend was marrying Brodie’s brother, and Gabrielle and Brodie would be forced to spend time together whether she liked it or not.
As things in the small, quiet town of Turtle Lake take a decidedly dark and dangerous turn, Gabrielle and Brodie only have each other to turn to. Will they be capable of overcoming their aversion to one another while coping with their own troubled pasts and dealing with the current dangers surrounding them? Or is their hostility just skating the fine line between love and hate?

This is the second book in the Beaumont Brothers series and
although it is stated it is a standalone I think I may have gained more depth
to this story if I had read the first book Beautifully Wounded.
This is the story of Brodie Beaumont and Gabrielle. It is
through Jackson and Lena (who were in the first book) that they are brought
together. Gabrielle is the best friend of Lena and she arrives in Turtle Lake
to attend the wedding of Lena and Jackson.
Brodie had met Gabby previously which had not gone down too
well when he attempted to grope her which earned him a slap in the face, so to
say he is not looking forward to meeting her again is an understatement. Gabby
is also remembering the encounter and is now wondering if she had been a little
too over the top at Brodie’s behaviour. She is not however an easy pushover for
Brodie and she will not be treated like he treats other women.
As the wedding draws near the pair find themselves spending
time alone together helping out with the final wedding arrangements. They get
to know one another and both realise they were holding misconceptions of each
other and they finally do become good friends. They can both feel a pull of
something between them but neither taking that step.
The story then evolves with a relationship developing after
something sinister happens to Gabby and Brodie finds himself wanting to protect
and cherish Gabby.
It was a sweet and endearing storyline but nothing that has not
been delivered in other new adult romances. I did find the part where Gabby’s
mother turns up a little unbelievable and over the top but none the less it was
an enjoyable quick read. Three and a half stars.
