Title: Broken
Author: Nicola Haken
Genre: M/M Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 29 February 2016

When Theodore Davenport decides to switch his mundane job for a career, he walks into Holden House Publishing with enthusiasm and determination to succeed. As he settles into his new role, makes new friends, and dreams of making it to the top, everything is going to plan.

Until he meets James Holden, CEO of Holden House.

James Holden hasn’t been able to stop thinking about his encounter with the timid man he met in a club bathroom last week, and when he discovers the one haunting his dreams is an employee, he can’t seem to stop himself from pursuing him.

Just a little fun - that’s what James tells himself. He can’t afford to care for someone who can never reciprocate, not once they find out who he really is. James believes nobody deserves the burden of being attached to him. He’s a complicated man. Damaged. Difficult. Demanding.

Broken.

Is Theodore strong enough to confront James’ demons? More importantly, is James?

(M/M romance. Not suitable for readers under 18 years of age due to language and sexual content. ***Please note*** This book contains scenes of self harm, mental illness and suicidal ideation which may pose as a trigger, or be uncomfortable for some readers.)

Five 'Gripping' Stars

This was a very emotional and beautiful read that covers a difficult subject matter which was wonderfully done. This is a story where plenty of tissues are needed on hand when reading. Even now, a couple of weeks after I have finished reading it, it still has the power to zing my heart.

Theo has finally landed a job in publishing which although he will be starting at the bottom, it is in an environment he loves and feeds his passion for books. Ecstatic with his new job, he goes on a night out with his friends to a local gay club to celebrate. It is whilst he is in the club that he meets a hot sexy man in the bathrooms. The intensity of the stare the two have and Theo throwing his inhibitions to the floor (the drinks he has partaken also helps this along) leads to a hot and steamy clinch to happen. Next day Theo is mortified with his behaviour but puts it down to experience, and one never to repeat. However his past is about to come rushing in when the man turns out to be his new boss!

After his beloved father died, James is now the head of a successful publishing company. His has little need of friends and spends most of his time at work or on his own in his mansion. He has regular hook ups with men he meets in clubs and bars but does not take anything into a relationship. Once he has taken what he can from the dirty sex, the men are quickly forgotten. However he finds himself thinking more of the guy he recently met in a local club. Little does he know how soon they will be coming face to face again!

James and Theo clash when they meet again, both pushing away from what they think the other is. However it takes a near disaster that brings them closer and then things just evolve from there into something that Theo would never expect what James has been secretly hiding.

This was an absolutely diamond to read. The storyline pushes the reader through throes of fast paced emotions, from the high and intense passion between the two men to the despair and anguish that the sub story reveals.

I was instantly drawn to both James and Theo. It was astounding to see how Theo stepped up to the plate and revealed a strength of character he could not have known he would need to be. As for James I just wanted to grab hold of him and squeeze him tight. He had me clutching my heart strings. What a beautiful but broken man.

I know we always talk about the journey a book can take you on and this one certainly does, it was astoundingly haunting and so beautifully written. It is one of those books that will stay with you ever more. I cannot recommend this book any higher. It is one definitely not to miss. Five gripping stars.

“Broken is truly a remarkable book. I was blown away by it, by the raw and sincere way Ms. Haken took these men through the roller coaster of living with unrelenting demons. And now, as I sit here wondering if I have to courage to post this review, all I can think about is how far into my heart Theo and James have embedded themselves--and how I hope they never leave. I think it might be too hard to say goodbye...although maybe not as hard as it was find the words that I hope compel you to read this breathtaking book.” ~ Beth, Give Me Books

“A stunning but achingly painful read” ~ Author Sloane Kennedy

“This is an amazing book full of so much raw emotion that it gripped me and wouldn't let up. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head and I wanted to just jump in the book and give James a huge hug. Lots of FEELz in this book.. both good and bad.” ~ Alpha Book Club
