Title: The Words We Leave Unspoken
Author: L.D. Cedergreen
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: June 21, 2016
At thirty-six, Gwen Porter has always done the right thing. A selfless pillar of strength, devoted wife and mother of two, she thrives on caring for those she loves. When Gwen learns a shattering, life-changing truth, her deepest concern is telling her husband, John. She finds herself on a destructive path of deceit and when her strength is tested, she turns to the most unlikely person.
For Charley Brant, Gwen’s carefree, younger sister, life is about surviving another dead-end job or her next train-wreck relationship. She lives in the moment, denying herself any hope for a future. After years of relying on her sister’s handouts and support, Charley finds herself in unfamiliar territory as she struggles to be the vessel of strength that Gwen needs to navigate through the storm.
As Gwen faces her darkest fear and an uncertain future, Charley turns to the past, unraveling secrets that will change everything that has come to define her. And in the wake of a tragedy, each will come to recognize that sometimes the most important words are the hardest ones to say.
Having read this author’s previous books I was aware I would be in for an emotive but compelling read and I was certainly not disappointed.
The story outline is of two sisters Gwen Porter and her younger sister Charley Brant. Gwen has always been the sensible and supportive sister and has at most been a surrogate mother to Charley, due to their mother’s breakdown when their father left. Gwen has lived a beautiful life with her childhood sweetheart, John and their two young children. But she has suffered a period of serious illness in the past which has made her appreciate how the past needs to be left there and to be happy with the enrichment of the present.
Charley on the other hand has always been the carefree and reckless sister. Never taking anything serious and grabbing chances whilst she can, leaving a trail of destruction in her path, often being picked up and smoothed out by the ever supportive Gwen. However when a repercussion of the past rears its ugliness, both sisters are pulled together in a cloak of uncertainty and fear, standing united in their fight.
The storyline takes you on an emotional ride with plenty of highs, with sighs of contentment then onto pure snotfests with tears a plenty and an angst driven journey. But it is ultimately about family and how the misunderstandings of the past can be redeemed once the gates of understanding are flung wide open. Once the tables are turned can Charley find it in herself to deal with the past so she can become the steadfast support for her family?
I don’t want to divulge the plot as the beauty is in the first reveals as the reader is taken through this wonderful storyline. However there was plenty of passion especially with Charley and her boss with the romance that originally started as a hot fling but turns into so much more but will Charley let him in? Can she finally let go of her insecurities and reach for that happiness?
The scenes between Gwen and her husband, John and their children was so lovely to read and at times became heart breaking. I was a wreck.
This truly is a beautiful book full of love, romance, family, redemption and with the hidden message that life is for living and not for hiding. Absolutely loved it. Five stars.
