Rosie

They say that life is a beautiful lie and death a painful truth. They're right.
No one has ever made me feel more alive than the guy who serves as a constant reminder that my clock is ticking.
He is my forbidden, shiny apple.
The striking fallacy to my blunt, raw, truth.
He is also my sister's ex-boyfriend.
One thing you should know before you judge me;
I saw him first. I craved him first. I loved him first.
Eleven years later, he waltzed into my life, demanding a second chance.
Dean Cole wants to be my bronze horseman. My white knight has finally arrived. Hopefully, he isn’t too late.

Dean

They say the brightest stars burn out the fastest. They’re right.
She sets my mind on fire.
All smart mouth, snarky attitude and a huge heart.
In a world where everything is dull, she shines like fucking Sirius.
Eleven years ago, fate tore us apart.
This time, I fucking dare it to try.
Getting to her is a battlefield, but man, that’s why they call me Ruckus.
Rosie LeBlanc is about to find out how hard I can fight.

And conquering her will be the sweetest victory.

This is the second book in the Sinners of Saint series (although the third hot hole story) and at a stretch it could be read as a standalone, but it is definitely best you read the whole series. There is a lot of drama that has happened up to this point and even with flashbacks to the past the new reader might not get the underlying reasons of why certain things are an issue.

It was with a lot of trepidation that I started reading this book as I knew Rosie was the female lead in this storyline. I knew she was ill and had CF and I am not a fan of reading books where there is a possibility I won’t get my HEA. I’m not going to give any spoilers though so you will have to go through the anxiety I did whilst reading this to seek that forever HEA.

Dean Cole is the more fun and energetic of the four Hot Holes but I knew he was hiding a lot of pain which is revealed in the storyline. Ten years ago Dean was the boyfriend of Rosie’s older sister Emilia but all is not as it seems. A decade back Vicious was an absolute nightmare towards Emilia, even though it was clear he had the hots for her, so to deflect from his true feelings he was her one tormentor. Seeing this, Dean knew the only way to save her from his friend’s ministrations was to take her under his wing as his girlfriend. However when he goes to pick her up on their first date he sets eyes on Rosie – Baby Le Blanc – and his knows he is with the wrong sister. Thinking he can hold on for a while before he sets Emilia free and goes back for his true love, things quickly turn out so much differently than he expected.

Rosie has always adored her older sister but when she sees her with Dean she hides the heartbreak she is feeling. After all she has come to see Dean as the one for her. However with her illness and her expected short life span what could she ever offer him, so she stays on the side lines and eventually leaves town to go be with her sister in New York.

Fast forward ten years and Rosie is now in New York on her own, trying to live a life whilst she can but then she meets a blast from the past who now happens to be her landlord. Being that she cannot afford to move anywhere else (based on the luxurious apartment and the extremely low rent he is charging her). But Dean is 100% man whore and she can not help but despise what he stands for. It doesn’t mean to say that flutter in her heart isn’t still there though.

There was oodles of drama in this book that I won’t give out the spoiler but suffice to say it was one reveal after another that kept being thrown in the mix. There were also some poignant and sweet sentimental romance things too. Dean was also a hoot and had me laughing my head off. I loved the banter between Dean and Rosie and their relationship just totally worked.

There were some things that just didn’t gel with my way of thinking such as when he was sent every summer to stay with that woman. Just weird and I kept thinking ‘Why?’ and although there kind of was an explanation given it was a weak one (in my mind!).

Overall though this was an epic and dramatic read that kept me engaged throughout (even with that slight trepidation I was clinging onto). The epilogue was worth waiting for and there was a HEA. However I always like to leave my HEA thinking it is a forever but maybe not so much with this one which was kind of bittersweet. Still wonderful though. I can’t wait to see what happens with Trent so hopefully he is the next book (and I still wish Jaime had been given a full novel length book!) Four stars.
