Turn-ons…
Party girls.
Platinum blondes.
Zero expectations.
I used to think that if you could combine all three into one female, you’d have the perfect woman. The other guys in the Single Dads Club razz me for wearing the crown of the forever bachelor. The one who’ll be in his seventies chasing down young hotties in his wheelchair.
Then why the hell does Ava Pearson—an outdoorsy girl, a brunette, and a woman who screams stability and responsibility—seem to be the only woman on my mind lately?
Especially when I’ve got enough obligations without adding any complications to the mix—my son, my bar…well, that’s about it. But that’s enough for a guy like me.
It’s the cupcakes. It’s gotta be the cupcakes she bakes that keep me coming back for more. After all, the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, right? Well, it’s apparently a direct target to his dick, too.
Did I forget to mention that she’s my buddy’s daughter…another member’s daughter?
Ava might say she can handle being friends-with-benefits, but I’m not sure she can. Unfortunately for her I’m too selfish of a prick to care—until I do.
This is the second book in the Single
Dads Club series. I wasn't sure what I would find as in the first
book, Real Deal, Dane came across as not having much depth and an
easy to read character. One of those men who are obvious in their
choice of fake blonde party type women. So it was a pleasant surprise
to find out just what Dane was hiding underneath all that persona.
Dane owns the local bar which is where
the single dads club meet up regularly. I wondered how this player
could manage running a bar as well as look after his son. However
this book is told in dual POV so an ideal opportunity to get inside
Dane's head. What a revelation it was! This man was hiding so much
hurt and yearning for approval. He covered these long standing
insecurities with his over the top mannerisms, the innuendos and the
fleeting hook ups he has so that nobody gets near. It was so sweet to
see how he was with his son and that this was one strong and
determined man who was ensuring a secure and stable background for
his son. He was not going to let the fact that his mother was no
longer in his life. Little was known of his son's mother but when it
was revealed it had me open mouthed. What a shocker!
When a gorgeous brunette is sat at
his bar one evening, the two get chatting and the banter lets fly. This night becomes the catalyst for a
tryst of secret hot passionate rendezvous but then something happens
that is misconstrued and Ava keeps her distance.
Fast forward three
months and Ava has opened her bakery opposite Dane's bar. With the
two being back in close proximity, sharing the same mutual friends
and his love of her cupcakes, it takes little time for Dane to become
established back in Ava's pants. But then this flirtation sprouts
wings and things become a little more intense the more that is
revealed about each other. The learning to trust and let their
relationship become just that – a relationship, takes a heck of a
lot of interference from their friends for them both to comprehend
that their exclusive friends with benefits arrangement is more than they both
envisioned.
This book was so much more than what I
was expecting. In fact I wasn't looking forward to it at all but Dane
quickly established himself as a character with much deeper emotions
than was originally thought. The chemistry and intensity between
Dane and Ava was so tangible that you could feel the heat oozing from
the kindle.
I loved the background to Dane's story
and was a huge curveball I did not see coming. It just made me love
him more. There were some very emotive and poignant moments that had
me tearing up in parts. The whole feel of the town and the families
also give this book another depth that kept the reader involved. I
also liked that the authors included cameo appearances from much
loved characters from the Modern Love series.
If you love your romances to be hot,
passionate and steamy with emotional depths that have your emotions
swinging from comedy to sadness to extreme happiness then this is one
book not to be missed. Five stars.

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?
We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.
What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We're both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We're both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.
