Synopsis
With the legal trouble behind them, Daniel Caplin and Rafael Argon are ready to settle into a low key d/s relationship, but life is unrelenting, when blackmail shatters their illusion of happily ever after. Pictures from one of the Rafael’s public scenes instill fear into his new Submissive, Daniel, acting as a wedge driving the new couple apart.
The building peril in George’s community weighs heavy on his shoulders as he struggles to find the culprit while hiding his feelings for his new house guest. Jesse is torn between ending his marriage, picking up a rebound he should have left fifteen years in the past, and the dangling carrot of a possible relationship with a man. He is forced to fight for what he wants most, a leap he may be too chicken to take.
In the sequel to Legally Bound George battles to take down an unknown enemy, while watching helpless, as those he cares for most are broken beyond repair. Can Rafael and Daniel rebuild their trust after it's broken with lies?
Review
Foxy Rating = Five stars
This is the second book in the Bound series and continues on
from Legally Bound. The main characters from LB, Daniel and Rafael are featured
in this book and delves deeper into their new D/s relationship and all the
testing waters that can entail, however the main focus now is George aka King
and Jesse. It was that tingling temptation of a spark between these two that
was touched on at the end of book one that had me itching and yearning for this
book. Well, let me tell you I was not disappointed in my excited anticipation.
Jesse, the best friend and lawyer partner to Daniel was an
instant hit with me from book one. He just says as he sees fit and doesn’t hold
anything back. He has always had a deep fascination of Daniel’s revelations of
his love life that I just knew something was adrift with how Jesse was
portraying himself in his unhappy marriage that he had been tied in for ten
tiresome years. His wife, a domineering and petulant woman, was used to getting
her own way and this was a giveaway to Jesse’s true self – his natural
submissive nature. It wasn’t until the authoritative George, known as King in
his D/s club, that a light was switched into Jesse’s life.
King is the ultimate Dom, all the other Doms in his club
revere to him in all matters. He lives his life in his penthouse with his
slaves, overseeing everything with contacts held in high places and influential
people. Some of these also frequent his club with their Doms or subs and when
some of these people begin to get threats of blackmail, George takes it upon
himself to find out who the perpetrator and spy in his club, is. All this is
going on at the same time he acknowledges who and what Jesse means to him.
Little by little a development occurs between the pairing that leads to a
contract being agreed between them. The creation of that contract also gave a
touch of humour by George trying to have a contract with a lawyer!
I loved how open and honest Jesse was and it was through his
questioning (sometimes hilariously) that offered some insight to the D/s and
BDSM lifestyle to the reader which I found most revealing and gave me a better
understanding that other books have not.
The element of suspense was also
cleverly done and I am glad to see I didn’t spot who the blackmailer was – it
definitely threw me. There was also some serious heat between George and Jesse,
that first kiss was a winner! Even the dialogue between them at times was hot.
Jesse’s wife, Cill was an absolute pain and her trickery had
me seething and grinding my teeth at my kindle. The anticipation was cleverly
done into how what she did would impact on Jesse. The reader was taken though an
angst filled period of questioning ‘will this ever be resolved?’ I was waiting
anxiously for this to be delivered. But then oh what an ending to be given with
those final words being uttered by George. I just wanted to pipe up behind him
and shout Yay! You rock George! However on that point I hope there is more of
this series as I need more. It has become a firm favourite of mine and a new
author to follow. Brilliant. Five stars
Excerpt
The back elevator dinged as he approached, and the doors slid back to reveal Jesse's face. He had circles under his eyes and worry lines in his forehead. Two fingers held a garment bag over one shoulder and a duffle over his other.
“Is it still okay if I stay?” He put a smile on his lips that George knew was fake.
“But of course. Let me help you.” George approached him and tried to take the bag, but Jesse didn’t move to hand it over.
“I’ve got it.”
“Don’t be absurd. I would have a slave do it, but he’s rather tied up at the moment.”
The statement earned a chuckle out of Jesse, and he gave up the bag. Even hurt Jesse had a light in his blue eyes and his heart on his sleeve, a trait that made him wholly unique compared to the masks most wore to impress George.
“I can stay on the sofa or something if the slaves use the guest rooms.”
George laughed and turned his back to stalk down the hall. When he didn’t hear Jesse following, he cast a glance over his shoulder.
“Slaves in bed … how naive you really are, handsome.”
Jesse started after him, brow creased. “Where do they sleep then?” He caught up and followed George to the other side of the penthouse.
He realized Jesse was serious, and he laughed throatily again. “I have cages for them.”
“I love you and Daniel, but your lifestyle is fucked.”
Author Bio
When not staying up all night writing, J.R Gray can be found basking in the warm glow of the Miami sun, or at the gym where it's half assumed Gray is a permanent resident. A dominant, pilot, and sword fighting enthusiast, Gray finds it hard to be in the passenger seat of any car. Gray frequently interrupts real life, including normal sleep patterns, to jot down nonsense. The bane of Gray's existence are commas, and even though it's been fully acknowledged they are necessary, they continue to baffle and bewilder.
If Gray wasn't writing…well, that's not possible. The buildup of untold stories would haunt Gray into an early grave or possibly a mental institution where the tales would end up on the walls in crayon and finger paint.
