Synopsis
Bridger Payne is an enigma that no one can figure out. Wise beyond his years, eerily intuitive and sexy as hell, every woman in The Silo wants him. None can have him. Not the real man, anyway. He might wield the lash for you if you ask prettily, but he’ll get no gratification from it. He’ll definitely make you scream, but he won’t think twice about you when he walks away. Bridger carries the darkest of secrets. He’s filled with too much pain. He’s utterly untouchable. Until she came along. **Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just... a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.
Review
The fifth book in the Wicked
Horse series, Wicked Bond is Bridger’s story. The one I have been waiting
for since the very beginning.
From the first book, Bridger has always been an enigma to me.
I started off thinking he was cold and distant but little by little in each
book within the series, little glimpses of his character kept slipping through
to illustrate that he wasn’t as closed off as I thought. This was a kind and
caring guy who has helped all his friends as they have gradually met and found
their soulmate and dropped out of The
Silo. He has always maintained a relationship would never be for him so I
just knew there was something he was holding back, something from his past that
was impacting still in his present life. Then along comes Maggie who blows all
his steadfast resolutions to pieces.
Maggie is brought to Bridger for protection when she is
rescued from a desolate situation. At first she appears broken but she shows
her strength and admits to Bridger what has happened to her and a secret she is
trying to keep hidden.
It takes a lot more for Bridger to divulge his horrific
past. Not for one moment did I ever think that this strong and unbreakable man
had ever gone through what he had. Little by little though, Maggie breaks
through but it takes a whole lot of angst and separation to bring forth the
final breakthrough for Bridger.
I must admit this wasn’t as dark and gritty as I thought it would
be although in a way it was, I imagined it being much, much darker. Bridger’s
story was heart breaking at times and I was glad to find out the true Bridger,
under all the demons that were weighing him down, when they were finally freed,
revealed this beautifully caring and loving man.
As the book warning says there was a lot of sex (but not as
much as Cain’s book!) but I was surprised it wasn’t all BDSM which I was happy
about. I loved Bridger and Maggie and this was my favourite book in the series
(sorry Woolf and Cain!). These two had a lot from their pasts to work out but
together they supported each other and achieved a wonderful promise of the
future.
The supporting cast as always was a welcome addition and
great to catch up with the characters from the previous books. Woolf is
featured more prominently being Bridger’s best friend and I liked how the
ladies took Maggie into their inner circle. There were lots more new cast
members but to reveal them would spoil the story for the new reader.
This is a definite must read book and series and one that
has become an absolute favourite of mine. Five wickedly amazing stars.
