Review
Moments starts off as a kind of an enemies to lovers trope with
a simple tale of opposites attract.
Ethan runs a community support centre which is low on
funding so when he is approached with a big donation to support a community
service order, he knows he has little choice but to accept. He is aware the serving order is on some
hot shot actor and when Jacob arrives on his doorstep his first impressions
allude to that fact but then things happen and feelings start getting dragged
into the mix.
Jacob is a television superstar with some B movies under his
belt. Being an actor since childhood he has developed a selfish and predictive
persona. The usual scenario of getting in with the wrong crowd, the whole drugs
and alcohol addictions makes an easy way for Jacob to get lost in and be unable
to strike out. When the threat of prison is given a reprieve to serve time at a
community centre he knows he has been given a chance but at first he sees it as
an inconvenience, hence his attitude stinks when he first meets Ethan.
This was a quick easy read. There were some holes in the
plot such as why he had served time and then possibly going back in again for
relatively small time things made for the story being a tad unbelievable. The
quick turnaround of Jacob’s demeanour after one incident was also surprising. I
would have liked to have seen more conflict within himself and showing a period
of differing behaviours rather than a cut and overnight change. I also didn’t
feel the connection between Ethan and Jacob as I have in other books by this
author.
Overall though I did still enjoy it and I liked the
characters. Just a little bit more development in the change and the
relationship from enemy to lovers and this would have been a winner. Three
stars.
