Title: Ricochet
Author: Keri Lake
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: July 9, 2015

The only sure way to destroy a man is to take what he cannot live without.

Three years ago, I had everything.

A beautiful wife.

A son.

A reason for living.

Until a ruthless task force, assembled under Mayor Michael Culling, with a brutal strategy to make the streets of Detroit ‘safe’, ripped away everything I loved in a deadly hunt called The Culling.

They tried to kill me, too. I wish they had. Now I'm cursed by the memories of that night, and the words I whispered to my dying wife.

A promise—to avenge the wrong and set it right.

I’m no longer Nick Ryder. I’m a masked vigilante. Faceless. Loveless. Fearless. A man with nothing left to lose—one who's seen the dark and violent truth behind the city’s flawless veneer.

Michael Culling doesn’t know who I am. Or what I want. All he knows is that I’ve kidnapped his beautiful wife.

An eye for an eye—isn’t that how the saying goes? And Aubree Culling is the perfect pawn to destroy him.

If she doesn’t destroy me first.

This book just had everything I wanted in a dark, gritty and sometimes violent romance. I was a little unsure when reading the author was an urban fantasy/PNL author but it appears she has stepped into a new genre and I for one am absolutely thrilled she did as this is one of the best dark romances I have ever read. All this along with the fantastic cover and I was hooked right on in.

It’s a little hard to write a review about this book as the beauty is in the unknown being thrust upon you once you get gripped into this amazing book. It is very rare for me that when I am reading for the story to appear in my head like watching a gripping movie on the big screen. Well this one did it for my big time.

This is ultimately a story of revenge but sometime the lines of right and wrong get a little blurred and the outcome can sometimes be thrust upon you without realising your ideals have changed along the way.

Nick is a dark and violent man, his past has made him this way and he now seeks power on those who have wronged against him.

Aubree has long since lost her ability to feel love, now all she feels is hatred and disenchantment with her life. How she has survived the last decade of her life is in question as she has been through untold difficulties that she hides behind her public persona. It takes one man to look deeper into her soul to find the truth.

There was so much violence and harsh reality thrown at the reader but it was a definite necessity to give credence to the plotline. Page after page of graphic details of the graveness and depravity on the streets of Detroit had me gasping and swearing at my kindle. The story was so cleverly executed and interwoven with some off the chart hot passion that was fabulous to be pulled into.

For days after finishing this I was constantly flicking back and re-reading and also found myself caught in thought about these amazing character – Aubree, Nick and Alec. The ending was outstanding and had me shocked that I missed seeing that revelation coming!

This is one hell of an amazing story that is both dark, dangerous, raw and gritty but at the same time it has lots of passion, love and some beautifully tender moments that had me sobbing. I definitely recommend this as a MUST READ and one I will place on my best ever list. Five stars is not enough to award to this fantastic book. Brilliant!
