Review

Sawyer Bennett is fast becoming one of my favourite authors, I just love the way she writes the heroes with a touch of darkness. Irresistible!

Kyle Sommerville is in hiding after leaving the dark side of the persona he created whilst undercover. Now things are coming to a head with the operation, he just needs to lay low until he can bring those perpetrators to justice. Being in hiding brings him to the small sleepy town of Misty Harbour where he takes up a post as the caretaker of the lighthouse. It also brings him living opposite the quirky school teacher Jane. 

Jane Cresson loves her life in her happy peaceful town, where everyone knows everyone, her family is close, she has a great job and a minx of a best friend in Miranda. When she gets her first glimpse of her sexy new neighbour over the road from her, she makes it her mission to get to know him in more ways than one. But this muscled, tattooed, grumpy man is a hard challenge which she sets out to conquer!

I loved Jane from the start with her bright and breezy manner, her quirkiness and her brilliant ability to lay out the movie quotes in a flash was hilarious. She was the total opposite of Kyle who was broody, intense and dark but oh so sexy. I total could understand why she made it her goal to get under his skin (and sexy abs!) 

Kyle was a cool dude, he held his cards very close to his chest and from the start it looked impossible for his defences to be infiltrated. But I loved how he was slowly unravelled by Jane and her light that whenever they were together she brought him out of the dark. Kyle’s past is so full of depravity and soul sucking angst, it was a wonder how he could hold all that in. 

The slow build-up of the passion and intensity, lead to some sizzling hotness between the pair. There was also plenty of tension and mystery surrounding the whole happy vibe going on in the small town, that you just knew trouble was a coming. 

This was another great read from Sawyer Bennett and when I found out this book was about the Kyle I had briefly read about in Wicked Bond (Wicked Horse #5) I was eager to dive in. The characters were believable and loveable from the start, even broody Kyle. A fantastic HEA that had me swooning at my kindle. Loved it.

The second book in the Devil’s Pride MC series, which is a spinoff of the Sizzling Miami series. I would definitely recommend you start with that series first as I’m not sure a new reader would grasp what had happened in the past and how the characters from that series are linked with this one.

Snake is undercover and has been for the past few years. His main contact at the FBI is Greg. Over the years the two have built up a friendship which in turn has turned to something more. To finally meet face to face is a big step, especially for Greg who fears as soon as Gene (aka Snake) sees what he looks like he will be turned off. Greg is not a muscled bound hunk and has a serious lack of self-confidence. But when Snake kicks the door down and grabs him then maybe Greg has been worrying for no reason? Snake knows he has his work cut out to break into Greg’s inner conflicts but somebody as determined and headstrong as he is, has no doubt he will get his man.

The backstory was a complicated one and trying to remember who everybody is and whose side they are on is not a task for the lazy reader. Jessie G keeps you on your toes and focused on what is happening.

I loved that Greg is not the usual ripped and hunky guy but a more ‘normal’ dude, not fat and ugly for sure but a little soft and cuddly. A complete contrast to Gene (Snake). Although I love to read about two hot guys getting it on I liked that these two were all about the love and understanding of each other and finding what they have always yearned for. I would have liked to have felt more of the connection between them that initially happened over the phone and then especially when they finally meet. It was more of a ‘tell’ than a ‘show’ in the book. But no matter I loved it!

Another tough and gritty read in the series and I can’t wait for the next one. Four and a half stars.

“That sexy voice and those incredible brains are a potent combination.” There was a sigh and a muffled groan, reminding Greg why they were talking at close to three in the morning. “Lucky for you, my ego’s big enough to handle the challenge.”

“Your ego or your dick?” Just saying it made his mouth water and he’d give anything to see it, touch it, taste it...

“Damn, Sunshine, you gonna groan like that when I’m shoving my big ego down your throat?” The rough dirty talk was more like the Gene he knew and loved.

Yeah, as hopeless as it was, there was no other word for the feelings that ran deep and true inside him. And it was hopeless. While not conventionally handsome, Gene was everything he could ever want in a man—tall, strong, rugged, smart, and deadly—and damn him for being a ginger to boot. The type of man who had no trouble finding a willing body to fuck. The type of man who would never look twice at an out of shape, curly-haired, glasses-wearing geek. But that was his secret and as long as Gene didn’t know exactly what he looked like, he was able to hold on to the fantasy for a little while longer.

“You know I will.” He was groaning again just thinking about getting his lips anywhere near Gene’s body. “I can feel you fisting my hair, holding me still while you make me take every inch.”

“Fuck yeah, I’d grab two fistfuls and fuck that dirty mouth the way it deserves,” Gene promised. “You want that, don’t you, Sunshine? To be manhandled until your throat is raw and your lips are swollen.”

Greg fisted his own aching cock, dragging his palm from balls to tip. What he wouldn’t give for that just once. “More than anything.”

“My dirty little Valentine.” Gene’s voice was ragged and full of satisfaction. “Get your toy, dirty boy, I’m dying to pound that tight ass until you’re screaming my name.”

There was no embarrassment as he reached for the long, thick vibrating dildo he’d already prepared in anticipation of this phone call. He wanted Gene too much to allow embarrassment to stop him from experiencing whatever he could with the man. “Tell me...tell me how you want me. On my back? On my knees?”

“On your back so I can see your face,” Gene purred and Greg felt his heart skip another beat. His dirtiest fantasies had nothing on phone sex with Gene. The real thing would probably kill him.

Like many readers, the dream of being a writer has been with me a long time. After three decades of trying, I'd begun to doubt. Thanks to social media, I followed my favorite authors hoping to glean some words of wisdom as I pounded out half-formed ideas with alarming regularity. Two repetitive themes emerged: to be a great writer you must read a lot and your butt must be in the chair every day like it's a job. Q and A with Jessie G!!

Today I’m very lucky to be interviewing Jessie G author of Talk Dirty to Me. 

Hi Jessie, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Tell us a little about yourself, your background, and your current book.

Thank you so much for hosting my guys today and your constant support of my books. A little about me, huh? Well, I’m a self-published author with three series in the works right now—Sizzling Miami, Devils Pride MC, and the Forgotten Soldier Series. I’m also a wife and mother of grown kids. When I’m not writing, I indulge my other passions which included reading, cooking, or traveling.

As for my book, Talk Dirty to Me is the second in the Devils Pride MC series and focuses on two side characters from Tricking Chase. Our DEA agents—Snake/Gene, the undercover bad boy, and Greg, the nerdy Intelligence agent—have never met even though they have been working as partners for five years. In that time, they were slowly falling in love, but they are completely opposite in appearance. Greg has severe body dysmorphia that makes him certain his hot biker will take one look at him and run.

In our very superficial world where our romantic heroes are gorgeous and sculpted and perfect, I really enjoyed bringing Greg to life. He’s real, with issues and opinions of himself that we can all relate to, and he’s someone you just want to hug. If I had a message for this book, it’s that real love is so much more than surface appearance.

So, did you always want to be a writer? 

From the time I discovered reading for pleasure, yes. My mother would tell you I always had an active imagination complete with imaginary friends when I was three, but I really didn’t like to read. The required reading in school was boring and it wasn’t until my aunt gave me a book in middle school that I really should have been reading, that I discovered there was a whole world of literature out there that I’d never had access to.

Romance, Science Fiction, Mystery & Suspense…I honestly couldn’t get enough. I carried books with me everywhere, read everywhere, and started filling up notebooks with ideas. If I didn’t like the way a book ended, I’d write my own end (early 80’s fanfic that had no outlet), and as I really believe I would be a writer when I grew up.

Unfortunately, life got in the way, the pressure to get a “real job” was great, and then I had kids that needed my full attention. I didn’t realize my dream until just before my 44th birthday, but I don’t regret a single thing. I truly believe those life experiences gave me the maturity to be a better writer, and it happened exactly when it was supposed to happen.

The second book in the Undercover trilogy and follows on the story from Lies (book one) and therefore needs to be read in order.

The cliff-hanger we were left hanging with was picked up and carried onward with more curveballs and suspense thrown in for good measure.

Joshua Phoenix has had to leave those he loves behind in order to protect them. However when Gabby’s life is threatened he is compelled to step in to save her, but can those he trusts really be trusted? It was hard to read how Gabby was grieving and then trying to move on with her life, little knowing what was happening on the periphery.

A suspenseful and gripping tale with a good plotline and charismatic characters. Four stars.

Prologue

Gabriella

Leaning back against my chair, I closed my eyes. I was in desperate need of just a few moments to collect my thoughts. Josh’s smile filled my mind, and I knew I would spend my whole life missing it. I only hoped our child would be lucky enough to inherit his or her daddy’s smile.

The intercom interrupted my thoughts, and I sat up straight and tapped the Answer button. “Yes, Valerie?”

“Your ten o’clock is here,” she replied, and a surge of nervous energy filled my stomach.

“Great, please send him in,” I said before standing from my desk and walking around the side after taking a few seconds to smooth my skirt. The door opened, and I looked up at Valerie. Just over her shoulder was a tall man with dark hair.

I stepped forward and held out my hand in greeting. “Hello, my name is Gabriella Shannon.”

He smirked, and it sent chills along my neck and shoulders. He had the most piercing green eyes I had ever seen.

He entered the room and took my hand, then lifted it toward his lips. As he kissed it softly, his eyes remained locked on mine. “Very pleased to meet you, Gabriella.” His voice was rich and so smooth. “My name is Roman, but you can call me R.J. It is what my friends call me, and I have a feeling you and I will be great friends.”

“Well, R.J., it is always nice to make new friends. It should make this process easier.” I offered a forced smile, instantly regretting my choice to return. Maybe I wasn’t ready to be back. Being in the presence of an arrogant man generally gave me the urge to be just as arrogant. Except I’d lost my confidence. I think a part of me died the day Josh’s friends and partners in the FBI, Greyson and a man named Trevor, showed up at my apartment. I could instantly see the sadness in their eyes when they told me Josh had died. I could also see the dread in their eyes when they shared the news. They too had lost a man they loved.

I wanted proof, because I didn’t believe he was gone—it was too hard to imagine. I wanted to see for myself that he was no longer here, breathing and vibrant.

Cremated. It still pissed me off that those were Josh’s wishes.

I looked up to see R.J. eyeing me curiously, and I felt embarrassed for getting lost once again in my grief.

“Sorry, please forgive me. Today is my first day back after being gone for over two weeks.” I turned away quickly and attempted to gather my wits.

“Yes,” he said in that soothing voice of his. Something about it made me a little uneasy. “Margo did mention you lost someone close to you recently.”

I closed my eyes tightly and took a second to breathe in, then nodded as I turned and allowed my eyes to meet his. “Yes, I did. Someone that meant more than words could ever describe.”

“I’m deeply sorry for your loss. Times like these are never easy. If you need more time, I understand. We could meet again in a week or longer if needed,” he offered with a smile.

“No,” I said more abruptly than I had intended. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I need this. I need the push to get back to life. It’s not going to be any easier if I do this today, or if I wait until next week. I’ll still miss him then.” I paused, attempting to calm my emotions. “I know I’ll always miss him.” I rested my hand over my lower stomach as my lip quivered. I was sure the desk hid my movements, but when his gaze shifted downward and his eyes widened slightly, I realized he had seen my gesture.

With a light nod, he offered me a smile as he got more comfortable in his chair. “Okay, then, let’s find my new home.”

I was thankful he didn’t ask questions or attempt to keep me talking about the loss I was still hurting from. I needed a distraction, and apparently he noticed that too.

Blake was a little ways ahead, but stopped and turned around. “You okay back there, princess?”

I waved him on. “Don’t worry about me!” I shouted. Picking up my pace, I reached down and grabbed a handful of snow. Each step he took, I did double to catch up to him. My fingers were numb from the snow, but I was almost there. Just a few more steps . . .

Blake sidestepped and tackled me out of nowhere, making me scream. His feet slipped and we both fell to the ground, laughing as we rolled around in the snow. He ended up pinning me to the ground, his legs straddling my waist and his body flush with mine. I shivered and it wasn’t because of the snow.

“You should know better than to sneak up on someone like me,” he said. His eyes strayed to my lips.

“I didn’t think you’d hear me,” I whispered breathlessly.

“You’d be surprised what I notice, princess.” He trailed a finger down my cheek to my rapidly beating heart. “Like how your heart is racing right now. I didn’t know I had that effect on you.” I blew out a nervous breath and he smiled, his lips getting closer to mine. “Tell me what you want,” he murmured.

“I can’t.”

“Why?”

“Because once I say the words, I can’t take them back.”

He brought his hands to my face, his thumbs tracing my cheeks. “Maybe this will help.” His lips closed over mine and I melted against him, willingly giving in. I’d never been kissed like that and I didn’t want it to stop. I wanted more. He pushed his tongue inside and I moaned as the heat rose between my legs. Holy hell, I wanted him.
