This was a tender tale of two men with opposite personalities
but with a common need for finding love.
Micah is a hard ass, a career driven surgeon who is domineering
and demanding. He has no one he cares for and no one to care for him. Or so he thinks - definitely not someone to
speak with before he has coffee!
Josh on the other hand has a smile for everyone as he serves
the coffee but that is until Micah walked into the coffee shop and sneered his
demand. After finally breaking away from his ex and his high flying law career,
Josh is keen to live his life simply and re-establish himself in a new city. That
does not include being in the path of men who think he is below them just
because he serves coffee!
Surprisingly both men meet again at the local care home
where both their grandmothers are residents. Micah only manages to see his Nana
once a year on his duty bound visit. Josh on the other hand is a daily visitor
and has come to love Nana as much as his own Granma. When Granma sends Micah a ‘sit
up and take note’ letter, he storms to the home to take issue with this meddling
old woman. What business is it of hers as to when he sees his nana? Oh what a
surprise he was in for when meeting Granma for the first time!
The story then transcends from there and how Josh in a
relatively short time has Micah reflecting on his ways but also is the start of
an auto hot-press of attraction for the pair.
This was a little of an insta love story with a few angsty
backwards and forwards dance of a romance. Micah with his internal inferiority
complex covered with his outer shell attitude and Josh’s continued attempts to
soothe the growling man. I would have liked to see more depth to the development
of the romance to bridge the initial standoffish behaviour to the then ‘I can’t
get enough of you’ emotional reflections.
The puppy – Lucky, was a sweet touch and the ailing grandmother
storyline, which resulted in the redemption of Micah’s past was endearing. There
was lot of sugar and lots of spice with a smidgen of sourness that all mixed in
the story gave a nice blend for a satisfactory HEA.
For me the best character was Alex. The only constant in
Micah’s life and his amazing best friend. He deserves his own story for sure,
with his cheeky persona and his sexy self, he would be a hit.
Overall I enjoyed the story and eventually got to like
Micah, but it took a while. Josh on the other hand was adorable. Three and a
half stars.
I have always been a romantic at heart. I believe that while life is tough, there is always a happy ending just around the corner. I started reading traditional historical romances when I was a teenager, then life and law school got in the way. It wasn’t until I picked up a copy of Bertrice Small and became swept away to Queen Elizabeth’s court that my interest in romance novels became renewed.
But somewhere along the way, my tastes shifted. While I still enjoys a juicy Historical romance, I began experimenting with newer, more cutting edge genres and discovered the world of Male/Male romance. Once I picked up her first, I became so enamored of the authors, the character-driven stories and the overwhelming emotion of the books, I knew I wanted to write my own.
I live in New York City with my husband and two children and hopefully soon a cat of my own. My day begins with a lot of caffeine and ends with a glass or two of red wine. I practice law but daydream of a time when I can sit by a beach somewhere and write beautiful stories of men falling in love. Although there is bound to be angst along the way, a Happily Ever After is always guaranteed.
