This is the follow up to Dax and Beck’s story which began in
On Solid Ground and picks up with them firmly established as a couple and a
little family now that they have adopted Violet.
It was clear to see that even within a happy ever after,
life isn’t all plain sailing and that is what these two men find. Both still
have issues from the past that need to be resolved such as Becks with his long
lost father and Dax with his loss and PTSD. So even though they have both found
a grasp of happy for now there is a lot of angst and resolve to be had.
This is right on the button about family and not just blood
related. The friends that have helped these two broken men find their place in
each other’s world have given the sense of strength and support to them that
puts them firmly as Dax and Beck’s new family.
It was a very emotive read and touches on the pain and
suffering they have both been through and learn to grow stronger together. Then
in the next we have the highs of intense connection and passion they have for
each other to the all-encompassing love they share for their daughter. I liked
how they challenged each other at testing times and how that love shone through
with the absolute trust they have for each other.
I must admit I have been waiting too long for this book as
although I was left with a happy for now ending in the last book, they was just
so much more to tell. I loved the secondary characters that just oozed that
word ‘family’ throughout the pages and the emotionally charged storyline that
evolved.
Dax and Beck are instantly loveable characters with their
complex backgrounds, their personal issues and how they have overcome adversity
to fight for their happy, their love, their family.
I absolutely adored the ending and made me go all googly
eyed and swoony. What a perfect ending to a perfect series. Or will there be
more? One can hope!
Five stars.
