Synopsis

Cara Carelli is a silver-tongued mafia princess, master manipulator, and the only woman I’ve ever loved. But she’s also smokin’ hot and my ex-wife.

When Cara led me straight into a trap and pleaded for my help, I couldn’t say no. She thought she had the upper hand, but this time, I was in control and planned to make her beg.

They say all’s fair in love and war and turnabout’s fair play, but what starts out as a wickedly seductive ploy turns into a twisted game of the heart.

Review

This is the second book in the Nailed Down series but at a pinch could be read as a standalone. The characters from the previous book are involved in this storyline so would be best to read in order.

Tied Down took a different route than that of Nailed Down and was a mafia type romance. Usually this is my least favourite trope but I have to say, even so I did enjoy this book.

Kiel is a journalist and when he was just starting out he met Cara and after a whirlwind romance they got married in secret. However something happened and Kiel returned home to his brother, beaten and bruised in body, heart and mind. Fast forward to the present and Cara has hoodwinked Kiel to return to New York. He finds out when he comes face to face with her once again when he steps off the plane. He is adamant he will not let her get under his skin again but things take a dramatic turn and Kiel’s natural protective nature comes hurtling full force for his wife.

Cara is the typical mafia princess, or should it be said she was as the more Kiel is with her he sees that she has grown in more ways than one and this woman who is his wife has changed. When danger comes lurking Cara turns to her husband to help her but she knows she has a lot of persuading him that they were meant to be together and they both need to fight the threat that has come to destroy them.

I never willingly pick up a mafia romance as I don’t enjoy the trope but although this had the crime family fighting it didn’t take centre stage. The storyline was mostly focused on the change in relationship for Kiel and Cara now that they have both matured and come to understand they were meant to be. It did take me awhile to get into the story but once I got hooked, I read it in more or less one sitting. It also helped that the characters from the first book were part of the main focus of the suspense sub story as a support to Kiel and Cara. I like linked books in a series.

Overall another engaging read from this writing duo and my rating is rounded up to a good four star read.
